I organized a service project for the Westminster Women’s Lacrosse team to give back to the lacrosse community, aiming to make a meaningful impact both locally and globally. After researching impactful organizations, I discovered Lacrosse the Nations, a nonprofit dedicated to providing opportunities for children around the world to play lacrosse. I knew this was the perfect cause for us to support.
To raise funds, I organized and led the Westminster Women’s Lacrosse College Play Day, dedicating the event to raising money for children in need of lacrosse gear and opportunities to play. We charged a $5 admission fee, and all proceeds went directly to Lacrosse the Nations. Through the collective efforts of our team and community, we raised an impressive $2,040—money that would go on to provide lacrosse gear, scholarships for travel, and other resources to children who wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance to play.

Event Planning & Coordination: Took the lead in organizing the Play Day event, from securing the venue to coordinating logistics. I ensured that everything ran smoothly, creating an engaging experience for participants while maximizing our fundraising efforts.
Fundraising Strategy: Created a fundraising page that allowed people to easily donate their admission fees, track our progress, and share the cause. This online platform helped us engage with a wider audience beyond just event attendees.
Marketing & Promotion: Designed a visually appealing graphic to promote the event on social media platforms. This graphic helped spread the word, driving attendance and inspiring others to contribute to the cause.
Community Impact: With the $2,040 we raised, Lacrosse the Nations was able to purchase lacrosse equipment for children and provide scholarships to allow them to travel and participate in lacrosse programs. Our collective efforts directly helped hundreds of children experience the sport in a way they hadn’t been able to before.
This project exemplified the power of sports to unite communities and create lasting positive change. It was incredibly rewarding to see how a simple idea—turning a lacrosse play day into an opportunity for giving—could lead to such significant impact. By rallying my teammates and the broader community, we not only raised crucial funds but also raised awareness about the importance of providing underserved youth with the tools to play.
For me, this project was more than just a fundraiser—it was an opportunity to lead, inspire my teammates, and help others experience the joy of lacrosse. It reinforced the idea that sports can be a powerful force for good, connecting people across cultures and backgrounds. The chance to give back to the lacrosse community in such a tangible way has inspired me to continue seeking out opportunities to combine my passion for the sport with initiatives that support both local and global communities. It’s a reminder that the positive effects of sports go beyond the field, and that with a little creativity and dedication, we can make a real difference.
